Abstract

The manufacturing sector is crucial for Nigeria's economic development. Despite the challenges facing the industry, there is a need for concerted efforts to develop the sector further, the study seek to examine the challenges of development administration in Nigeria with particular reference to the manufacturing sector in Nigeria. The study purposively selected 100 respondents, who have adequate knowledge about the subject matter; the respondents were drawn from five major manufacturing companies in Enugu state. The findings from the study revealed that the manufacturing sector is confronted with numerous challenges which development administration seeks to remedy; they include corruption, poor governance, inadequate infrastructure, poor human capital development, insecurity and dependence on oil. To curb these challenges identified, the study recommended that there is need for Government and other critical actors to provide security for businesses to thrive, provision of infrastructure, stamp out corruption, developing policies, promoting education and training, creating a favorable business environment and supporting Small & Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). Lastly, there should be investment in R&D and the development of a more diversified manufacturing base.
