Abstract

A rapid regeneration protocol has been established in Salacia chinensis via shoot tip multiplication. Shoot tips of 0.5 cm long cultured on MS medium supplemented with BA and IAA produced multiple shoots. A maximum of 13.220.95 shoots were produced per explant on MS medium containing 1.0 mg/l IAA and 2.0 mg/l BAP. Rooting of the regenerated plants were achieved in half strength MS medium augmented with 1.5 mg/l IBA and 10.0 mg/l NAA. The plantlets were hardened in vermiculite and later transferred to field conditions where 90% survival rate was observed.
