Abstract

Periorbital hyperpigmentation (POH) is a prevalent and usual problem among men and women, young people and the elderly all over the world. POH is the results of some factors consisted of genetics, anemia, stress, sleep disorders, aging, dermal melanin deposition, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation because of atopic or contact dermatitis, some systemic diseases, and wrong habits. It should be mentioned that genetic factor has the most significant role. There are various therapies for POH regarding above-mentioned reasons. POH therapy includes eliminating irritant agents, protecting against lights, and reducing pigmentation by physical or topical therapies. This study examines various kinds of POH, different reasons leading to this problem, its clinical signs, and diagnosis /treatment procedures.
