Abstract

In aquaculture, disease outbreak is a major concern. The use of chemotherapeutic agents in controlling infections leads to drug resistance and residue related issues. Recently, nanoparticles has gained much attention as an alternative to antibiotics since they supersede the side effects of antibiotics. Metal based nanoparticles (NPs) are reported to have excellent antimicrobial efficacy. The study aims to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) synthesized through chemical and green methods against Aeromonas hydrophila infection in Oreochromis mossambicus (Mossambique tilapia). In the present investigation, green synthesis has been carried out by aqueous extract of Emblica officinalis (Amla) fruit and chemical synthesis by sodium borohydride reduction method. The obtained AuNPs were characterized by Ultraviolet-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis spectroscopy) and FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) studies. The antibacterial efficacy of synthesized AuNPs was assessed by the activity of metabolic enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP and LDH) in the selected tissues of Oreochromis mossambicus reared on experimental diet post challenge. The antibacterial investigation revealed green synthesized AuNPs exhibited good antimicrobial activity.
